ECE R90 approved- Brake Pads

All Juratek brake pads are ECE R90 approved for fitting in any European country.

The standard was established to control the performance, manufacture, distribution, sale and installation of replacement brake pads.

ECE R90 comprises of the following vehicle tests:

  • R13H (the legal tests used to approve newvehicle braking systems)
  • Type O cold performance
  • Type O high speed performance
  • Type 1 (Fade) test
  • Parking brake test (rear pads only)

Plus

  • Cold performance comparison with OE product (equivalence within 15%)
  • Speed performance tests – 65/135 kph ( < 15% variation required)

Additionally ECE R90 sets minimum standards for:

  • Pad assembly
  • Shear strength
  • Hot and cold compressive strength
  • Identification
  • Packaging
  • Conformance of production
 

Our brake pads carry the “E” mark along with the E-mark approval number on their backing plate for easy identification.

ECE R90 approved- Brake Discs

ECE R90 approval is being extended to cover brake discs for:

Passenger Car
Commercial Vehicle

ECE R90 comprises of 5 parts –

1. Geometric requirements

2. Performance (Friction) tests – 
   Compliance with R13/13H
   Comparison with OE

3. Integrity tests -
   Thermal fatigue
   High load

4. Packaging & marking requirements

5. Conformance of production (COP)

ECE R90 - Timetable

September 2010 - Approved

March 2011 - Ratified

October 2011 - Entry into force (EIF) It will now be up to the individual countries to decide when/ if they wish to adopt ECE R90 02 (D&D)

After October 2011 - No EU country or signatory to R13/13H and R90 can refuse to access to its market for discs and drums approved to R90.

October 2012- All new braking system type approvals to R13/13H must include the “Identification Code” for the original disc or drum in the R13/13H communication sheet.

For the date of adoption by EU National Governments. Brake discs and drums will need to be approved by either:
As a part of the whole vehicle type approval to R13/R13H (OE parts)
To R90 (Aftermarket parts)
