Garrett Trucksport News

Pembrey; May 2019

Well, the season has definitely started just as we were hoping it would - in Luke’s Words ‘flying’! and this time the team headed to one of Luke’s favorite circuits on the 2019 calendar and the home of Welsh Motorsport; Pembrey in south wales.

After a very successful opening weekend at Brands Hatch the teams aim was to concentrate on making sure the truck was reliable so that it performed the same at Pembrey as it did at brands, and it certainly did that.

Luke, had an outstanding testing session on Friday where he was able to beat his personal best time around the picturesque circuit by nearly 1.5 seconds so he was a very happy chappy and with the camp set up, it was time to sit back and enjoy a well earned beverage or two and relax in the evening sunshine.

Saturday morning saw more of the Garrett Trucksport team arrive and it was soon all hands-on deck conducting a service on the Truck - this included check the brakes, tyres, oil, water and anything else you can think of.

Qualifying saw Luke have a trouble-free session under the glorious sunshine and ending up at the front of the field for the first race of the day.

Race 1 had Luke sat on the front of the grid, giving him a clear view ahead of him and from start to finish that’s how it stayed. Luke set the fastest lap of the race, gaining him yet more valuable championship points and a brilliant result for the team.

With Luke conquering the grid in race one it was time for the pack to be reversed with Luke having to start from 8th position in race two. Traffic was to be of an issue for Luke but, after picking them off one by one, he was able to finish the race in 3rd.

Luke started from pole position again in race three because of the outstanding lap times he put in the day before and as before, with Luke out front he had nothing to worry about apart from getting the truck and himself over the line in one piece. By the chequered flag he had done just that, claiming another win.

All that can be said for race four is WOW! With Luke starting middle of the pack he definitely needed to pull something out of the bag. Luke put everything he had into the race and was able to close down some big time gaps on trucks that were ahead of him - with one of the gaps being over 6.5 seconds - but he did it and crossed the line with the gap between first place, Steve Powell, and Luke being 0.002 of a second! Definitely a crowd favorite. Luke and Steve both commented in pit lane that the race had been one of the best races of their careers!

That concludes the Pembrey weekender. Luke and the team would like to say a massive thank you to all the sponsors for everything they have done to make the season possible so far.

Many ThanksLuke & The Garrett Trucksport Team.
